How to write
I do not think good writers born. I think they are. I also believe that only about a really good writer by following a few simple tips, and also by reading everything you can get your hands!
Friends, colleagues and clients have asked me how they improve their writing skills. There are many ways to become an effective writer. Some of the best tips are:
- Type in your way of saying - Do you speak your mother or your best friend. This makes your written conversation that almost always are informative and interesting for readers.
- Keep your reader. Make some quick bullets on what your readers are, how they think and / or speak, and ultimately what you want from them. I use sticky notes for this and I am down to my computer so that they are always right in front of me.
- Keep sentences short. Not too short, and there is not really a long and fast rules for the maximum number of words in a sentence should be, but if you return to read your letter, you know, if a sentence is too long. Remember to keep the conversational tone.
- In the last tip that I mentioned "Read your letter back." It is the key. Once you've written something, go back to read it to himself out loud. It also helps to read someone else to do it aloud to you. If you hear something loud, you'll quickly see where the problems lie in your letter.
- Editing! For some reason people do not want to edit what you have written them. But this is also a very important part of writing well. So, has written a play, you must read it again and / or had read it back to you. Edit now. Anyone can use the writing process - even if you think that you have set is pretty darn good - it can always be better - and shorter! Time constraints allow, I usually wait at least a day before I edit what I wrote. I sat him for a day and come back to the new. You'll be amazed at how well improve your writing with thoughtful editing.
If you write these tips to heart, I think you will find that you are a really good writer, very fast. But there is a tip of the utmost importance that the authors read.
Read especially the media that you want to write - for example, read the web copy, if you want to write web copy. Read this article if you want to write articles - newspaper articles are very different from the press, so see it. Read more sales letters if you want to write sales letters.
Well, not everyone will read well - keep an eye on it also. If you read the analysis - what do you think about the choice of the author's words? They moved per unit? Do you think it will make their goal? Keep the samples you can find the most efficient and refer to them when you need it.
Besides reading the genre you want to write, read, anything! Reading non-fiction and fiction is of inestimable value to increase your vocabulary. I love to read new books by successful business people - I always learn new words, new uses for old words and how the current buzzwords are for a given field. Reading gives you knowledge of the entire movement - and the ways that information. Read also critical - take note of what you think is well written and it is not so good. Any reading recommendations from people you respect.
It is not difficult, a good writer, but it requires practice and research. Remember the above tips when diving into the next writing project, and if you're not already an avid reader ... become one now!
Good luck!
